The College of Computer and Control Engineering of Minjiang University (hereinafter referred to as the College) was formerly the Department of Technical Engineering of Minjiang Vocational University. The Department of Computer Science was established in September 2002, and was renamed the College of Computer and Control Engineering in June 2018.

The College consists of four departments (Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Software Engineering, Department of Communication Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation), and five undergraduate programs (Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, and Information Security).

In 2007, the jointly declared first-level discipline “Computer Application Technology” won the approval for newly established key disciplines of undergraduate colleges and universities in Fujian Province. The Computer Science and Technology program was rated as the provincial “characteristic program” in 2010, approved as the provincial “pilot program of comprehensive reform” in 2013 and the pilot program of reform in innovation and entrepreneurship education in institutions of higher learning in 2016. The jointly declared first-level discipline “Information and Communication Engineering” was rated as the provincial key discipline in 2012. The “Electrical Engineering and Automation” program won the approval for characteristic program in the service industry by the Education Department of Fujian Province in 2016. In December 2017, “Computer Science and Technology” was appraised as the application-oriented key discipline by the Education Department of Fujian Province. In 2018, the specialty group of “Information Technology and Intelligent Application” was selected as the Fujian Provincial Demonstrative application-oriented group. In 2018, the College was approved as a provincial demonstration base for industry-university-research cooperation and a provincial demonstration university-enterprise jointly built training base for vocational education. The AI Innovation Class was launched in 2019.

In December 2015, approved by the Department of Science and Technology of Fujian Province, the College established the Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Information Processing and Intelligent Control, for which more than 20 million yuan has been invested in the construction of scientific research facilities. In September 2017, approved by the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the College established the Digital Fujian Intelligent Production IOT Laboratory, which is included in the list of the first batch of key laboratories in the digital Fujian IOT field. The other scientific research platforms of the College include Fujian University Engineering Research Center for Information and Control, Fujian University Engineering Research Center for Industrial Robots, Fuzhou Joint Laboratory of Robotics Technology Application, and Minjiang University-HC IOT Research Institute. In recent years, the School has obtained the approval for more than 30 provincial and ministerial projects, including 9 national projects. More than 200 academic papers have been published, including more than 100 SCI and EI papers. The scientific research fund allocated reaches over 20 million yuan. Jointly declared projects have won 1 second prize of Guangxi Natural Science Award and 1 third prize of Fujian Science and Technology Progress Award.

The College has 1,150 undergraduates, and 75 faculty members including 55 full-time teachers, 9 professors, 26 owners of vice-senior titles, 27 doctors and 2 doctoral candidates. 23 full-time teachers have professional (industry) qualifications and work experience. 4 visiting professors and 2 associate professors have been employed to enhance the team building. Among the faculty members, 2 are Minjiang Scholar Chair Professors; 1 was selected into the provincial “Hundred, Thousand, Ten Thousand Talents Project”, “Excellent Talents Plan for Newly-Built Undergraduate Universities”, and appraised as the provincial “Famous Teacher” and the municipal “Excellent Talents”; 2 were selected into the “New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan for Provincial Universities”; 6 were selected into the “Research and Development Plan for Outstanding Youth in Provincial Universities”; 1 is the chief expert of the Academician and Expert Workstation of an enterprise. In addition, the College has appointed: Yang Jian, a Changjiang Scholar and Professor of Nanjing University of Science and Technology, as the Director of the Academic Committee of Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Information Processing and Intelligent Control; Liu Yuan’an, winner of the second prize of National Invention Award and professor of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, as the Director of the Technical Committee of Digital Fujian Intelligent Production IOT Laboratory; Lin Keqiang, senior associate professor at King’s College London, and Wang Kun, senior research professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, as “Mindu Scholars” chair professors.

As a pilot unit for innovation and entrepreneurship, the College has always attached great importance to innovation and entrepreneurship work. It has carried out extra-curricular scientific and technological innovation activities for college students, and promoted discipline competitions at various levels and innovation and entrepreneurship training projects. From 2016 to the present, our students have won a large number of awards in various professional competitions. In the professional competitions at the provincial and above level, they have won 123 awards (327 students), including 19 national awards and 15 first prizes at the provincial level. In 2019, our students won the second prize at the 14th “Challenge Cup” National Competition, and the bronze award at the provincial competition of the 4th College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The annual employment rate has remained above 98% in the past five years.

Firmly “focusing on party building around the center, doing a good job of party building to promote development” and taking “establishing benchmark, strengthening foundation, and focusing on long-term effects” as the goal, the Party Committee of the College adheres to thought guidance and ideological education with key and difficult points considered. Bearing the unity of knowing and doing in mind, the Party Committee is proactively promoting the all-round implementation of key tasks for party building at the community level and the all-out, thorough, and all-round education, while gathering all efforts to improve the quality of personnel training and giving full play to its core role in the development of the college. In 2019, the party organization of the College was appraised as one of the Benchmarking Schools and Departments of Party Building Work in Fujian Province and Model Unit of Branch Cultivation and Creation. The committee has also won the titles of provincial “Home for Model Workers”, the provincial “May 1 Pioneer”, and the municipal “May Fourth Red Flag Youth League Committee”, etc.

During the period of 13th Five-Year Plan, the College will continue to improve the quality of talent training, enhance the ability of independent innovation, and strengthen the building of high-level team, vigorously promoting the coordinated development of talents, disciplines and scientific research.
