The College of Physics & Electronic Information Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the College) was formerly the Department of Physics of Fuzhou Teachers College, which was established in 1958. In 2002, it was renamed the Department of Physics and Electronic Information Engineering, which was officially renamed the College of Physics & Electronic Information Engineering on June 11, 2018.

The College currently has 6 teaching and research laboratories including Electronic Engineering Laboratory, Information Engineering Laboratory, Optoelectronic Technology Laboratory, University Physics Laboratory, Mechatronic Engineering Laboratory, and Comprehensive Laboratory. The five majors involve Electronic Information Engineering, Electronic Science and Technology, Physics (Normal), Mechatronic Engineering and Electronic Information Science and Technology. There are 1,129 students. The College currently has two university-level experimental teaching centers, namely the University Physics Experimental Teaching Center and Electronic Experimental Teaching Center, covering an area of 7,296 square meters with total assets of experimental equipment reaching 38.13 million yuan.

With Electronic Science and Technology as the core, and Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Control Science and Engineering as the wings, the College is committed to cultivating application-oriented talents in electronic and information system design, photoelectric materials and devices, mechanical and electronic engineering, physics teaching and other fields. After decades of development, a distinctive teaching and scientific research system has been gradually formed, with the support in directions of electronic system design, information processing technology, optoelectronic technology and applications, electromechanical system development and application, embedded applications, opto-electromechanical technology, and software simulation technology.

The College now boasts a provincial key disciplines (Circuits and Systems), a provincial applied discipline (Electronic Science and Technology), a provincial pilot discipline of comprehensive reform for undergraduate majors (Electronic Information Engineering), a characteristic major serving the local industry (Mechanical and Electrical Engineering), a provincial innovative experimental area of talent cultivation (Fujian Provincial Innovative Experimental Area of Training Talents in Electronic Information), two provincial key construction experiment centers (Electronic Experiment Center and Physics Experiment Center) and three special funding projects supported by the central finance for the development of local universities (Digital Creative Design Laboratory, Optical-electromechanical Digital Control Research Center of High-End Equipment, and Mechanical Engineering Training Center & Mechanical and Electrical Laboratory of Minjiang University). The College also has two provincial engineering research centers (Electronic Information and Control Engineering Center, Fujian University Engineering Research Center for Marine Intelligent Ship Equipment), two provincial key laboratories (Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Marine Sensor Functional Materials, Fujian Provincial “Advanced Motion Control” Key University Laboratory), a national key laboratory jointly established by Minjiang University and AQSIQ (Fujian), and a provincial innovation team (Key Technology for Coordination and Control of Optoelectronic Devices in High-End Equipment Manufacturing Industry).

The College invests a lot in cultivating electronic information engineers, mechanical and electrical engineering engineers and middle school physics teachers who are specialized in electronic information system design, optoelectronic materials and devices, application software design, physics education, and development and application of mechanical and electrical systems. The graduate employment rate exceeds 95%. The talent training quality system of the College highlights practical links such as experimental teaching and practical training, stressing the cultivation of students’ practical and innovative capabilities. The College actively organizes students to participate in discipline competitions. The annual provincial or national Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest has become a hot event for the students to participate and harvest outstanding results. In the past 5 years, in terms of the National Undergraduate Electronics Design Contest, the students have won 3 groups of first prize and 8 groups of second prize in the national competitions, and 16 groups of first prize in the Fujian provincial competitions, ranking top among the similar undergraduate majors.

The College has 98 faculty members, including 48 full-time teachers and 26 full-time scientific research teachers. Among the full-time teachers, there are 14 professors, 20 associate professors, and 70.8% of teachers have senior titles. Among the full-time teachers, there are 20 teachers having doctor degrees, accounting for 41.7%. Teachers with master degree and doctor degree account for 91.7%. Among the full-time scientific research teachers, 15 have doctor degrees, accounting for 57.7%; 7 are master’s research assistants, and 84.6% of the teachers have master or doctor degrees. In the past 5 years, the School has undertaken 5 national major thematic projects, presided over 1 national natural fund project, 11 provincial and ministerial projects, and 19 municipal projects. 430 papers have been received by SCI, EI, etc., and 63 patents have been authorized. In the past 5 years, 5 monographs have been published (2 by Higher Education Press and 1 textbook for the National 11th Five-Year Plan). The College has been appraised as the advanced scientific research unit of Minjiang University for many years. The Party Committee firmly grasps the fundamental task of fostering integrity and promoting rounded development of people, and strengthens the party building and ideological and political work for teachers and students. It has successively won the titles of “Advanced Primary Party Organization” at the provincial level, provincial and municipal advanced trade union home, “May 1 Pioneer Post”, and “May Fourth Red Flag Youth Committee” in Fuzhou. Besides, many provincial, municipal and university-level awards have been obtained in terms of association work, social practice, volunteer service, youth league day activities, innovation and entrepreneurship, etc. One person has been awarded the title of “National Advanced Individual” in the Summer Volunteer Activities for the Country People by the National College and Secondary School Student Volunteers.

The innovation-oriented College will continue to stimulate the energy of innovation, striving to achieve the goal of growing into a first-class college.
