The Cai Jikun Music College (hereinafter referred to as the College) was formerly the Music Department of Minjiang University established in 2005. In 2010, the Music Department absorbed the assets of the former private Fujian Music College and was renamed the Music College on the basis of the overall establishment. In order to commemorate the outstanding contribution of Cai Jikun, the former founder of the Fujian Music College, in music education, the Music College was named “Cai Jikun”.

The College has a major: Musicology, a provincial characteristic major. There are 4 teaching and research rooms, namely Teaching and Research Room of Vocal Music, Teaching and Research Room of Instrumental Music, Teaching and Research Room of Art Practice, and Teaching and Research Room of theories. There Musicology major involves 7 training directions: Vocal Music, Piano, Orchestral Music, Dance, Chorus and Conductor, Computer Music Production, and Art Management. The College boasts the Research Center for Popular Music of Music College, a university humanities and social sciences base in Fujian Province. The Vocal Music course is a “provincial excellent course”, and the Teaching and Research Room of Vocal Music has been awarded the “university-level teaching team” project. The Piano course is a university-level excellent course. The teaching achievements of the College have won the second prize of Outstanding Achievements in Construction of Campus Culture by the Ministry of Education. The textbooks compiled have won the second prize of National Teaching Achievements Award. Multiple achievements have received the first, second and third prizes of University Teaching Achievements Award. Many projects have been approved as the university research projects of education and teaching reform.

The College builds a curriculum system of “music knowledge + modern information technology + marketing + cultural quality”, and creates a teaching model of “promoting learning through competitions and promoting learning through acting”. Students have achieved remarkable results in art competitions at all levels inside and outside the province. The original campus drama “Starting Line of Youth” won seven awards including Chinese Drama Award ? Campus Drama Award, the highest award of campus drama in China.  The singing team won the first national top eight and the second national third place in the National “Voice of Campus” Competition. The Art Troupe have gone to Canada, Japan and Russia for cultural tour. The students have undertaken the director, arranger, recording work for activities of governments, enterprises and institutions for many times.

At present, the College has more than 40 faculty members, including 1 Mindu Scholar Chair Professor and 8 visiting professors. Among full-time teachers, those with master’s degree or doctor’s degree accounts for 92%. The College recruits more than 10 famous experts, scholars, professors and first-level and second-level actors from home and abroad to teach professional courses. In terms of the scientific research achievements, the College has won the first prize of outstanding scientific research achievements of the sub-projects of national education science “11th Five-Year Plan”, second and third prizes of the National University Arts Education Research Thesis Competition, and the first, second and third prizes of the Fujian Provincial Education Scientific Research Thesis Competition. One teacher was selected into the Outstanding Young Research Talents Cultivation Plan of Colleges and Universities in Fujian Province. Teachers have achieved excellent results in various professional competitions. They have won the first prize of the National College Music Teacher Vocal Competition, the Gold Award of Vocal Competition at the Fujian Provincial Music and Dance Festival, and first prizes of the Bel Canto, Ethnic Group, and Popular Group at the Fujian Young Singer Television Contest, first prize of composition at the Fujian Art Festival, Gold Medal at the US Open Global Finals (Piano Competition), Silver Medal of Bel Canto at the Chinese Music Golden Bell Awards - Fujian Competition, second Prize at the National College Music Education Piano Teacher Competition, second and third prizes at Fujian Province Baihua Art Award, and third prize of Fuzhou Jasmine Art Award.

The College has signed internship agreements with 17 units. The Board of Directors has set up a Cai Jikun Music Fund, offering funds to reward outstanding teachers and students and help poor students. The College has cooperated with several units for school running. It actively guides teachers to develop in the direction of “three platforms” (podium, stage and desk). Many teachers have won honorary titles such as provincial and municipal excellent Communist Party members, model workers, March 8 red flag bearers, excellent counselors, and star of teacher’s morality.

The College will adhere to the university motto of “advocating perfection and pursuing excellence”, further exploring the training mode of application-oriented music talents, and endeavoring to evolve into a “music college resembling an applicable university with strong competitiveness in the province and some influence at home and abroad”.
